The Hallé Choir is for adults aged 18+
We have a rolling programme of auditions throughout the season. If you would like to register your interest for an audition please apply using the link provided:
Once you have registered your interest, you will be invited to upcoming Open Rehearsals and Auditions.
Register using the above application form and you’ll be informed about the next available audition date.
The choir rehearses on a Wednesday evening from 6.45pm – 9.15pm at Hallé St. Peter’s in Ancoats, 40 Blossom Street, Ancoats M4 6BF
Occasionally additional rehearsals are scheduled on another evening, especially in the week of the concert.
We expect an 80% minimum attendance from our members, for each concert and overall during the season. We have an option of a ‘leave of absence’ period of a few months if necessary for any reason, without the need to re-audition to rejoin.
Auditions last around 10 minutes, and you would be asked to sing:
A piece of your own choice lasting no more than 3 minutes. This should be a piece that you know well and feel confident singing, and can be either a solo piece or part of a choral work. We will provide an accompanist for you
Vocal range exercises, ear and responsiveness tests
A short piece of accompanied sight reading
Membership is by voluntary donation. There is a guideline donation – currently £18 per month. All membership costs such as vocal coaching, rehearsal, concert and music score costs are provided. Members need to provide for their own personal costs such as travel to rehearsals, refreshments and concert clothes (usually smart all-black), and pay a refundable folder deposit of £30.
We welcome students. Singers in full-time education are asked to contribute a voluntary donation if they are able to. Students will need to pay a refundable folder deposit of £30.
As we have a limited amount of rehearsal time for each project, it is necessary for all Choir members to be able to read music.
Ticket booking via The Bridgewater Hall Box Office and website will be unavailable between Monday 20 January at 8pm until Wednesday 22 January at 10am due to essential maintenance. The Bridgewater Hall website and Box Office telephone lines will still be available for information but we are unable to sell tickets during this time.
