Hallé St Peter's
Chamber Series: Priaulx Rainier’s Quanta
Booking-links
Our Chamber concert series at Hallé St Peter’s is a unique opportunity to get up close to the music and enjoy smaller groups of musicians performing incredible music in a more intimate setting.
In this programme, two striking sound worlds showcase the expressive possibilities of the oboe and the warm, dusky tone of the cor anglais. Priaulx Rainier’s Quanta draws strongly on influences from her childhood in South Africa. Living and teaching in London in the 1950s, she composed richly textured and nostalgic sonic landscapes, full of sophisticated rhythmic patterns and chromatic tonalities.
Alongside this rediscovered gem comes one of Beethoven’s early string trios, a constantly shifting, stormy work in C minor, and a world premiere by Richard Causton for solo cor anglais, written specially for and performed here by Hallé oboist Virginia Shaw.
