Youth Ensembles Recruitment
Applications for the 2025-26 season are now open! Please ensure you apply below before the application deadline of Friday 9 May 2025.
The Hallé actively welcomes applications from under-represented groups and is committed to reflecting the great diversity of Greater Manchester in all areas of its work. Our ensembles are open to all talented young musicians and we guarantee an inclusive environment where everyone can develop to their full potential. We encourage applications from people with specific access needs and are happy to help with your application process.
With weekly rehearsals in Manchester, the Hallé provides its youth members with experiences like no other. Highlights include performing throughout the year at The Bridgewater Hall, working at the highest level with professional musicians, performing alongside the Hallé Orchestra, performing across the UK and Europe on residential courses and tours and meeting like-minded young people who share their passion for music and performing.
* Membership is free, however all members are invited to make a voluntary donation towards the Hallé as a contribution towards the core costs of maintaining the ensembles. Members are also expected to contribute towards the cost of residential courses and tours where appropriate. Bursaries are available through an application process to help cover the costs of residential courses, tours and travel to rehearsals and concerts. The Hallé is extremely grateful for the support of the Oglesby Charitable Trust.
Highlights of Youth Ensembles membership include:
- Regular performances at the Bridgewater Hall alongside the Hallé Orchestra.
- Performing a diverse range of repertoire, some of which is commissioned especially for the Ensembles.
- The opportunity to perform at renowned venues across the UK, including the Royal Albert Hall (as part of the BBC Proms), York Minster, Royal Festival Hall and Royal Opera House.
- Summer tours for the Youth Orchestra and Youth Choir; recent years have seen tours to Belgium, Rhineland, Barcelona, Lake Garda, Dublin, Scotland, and Paris.
The Youth Ensembles are frequently invited to perform at special events and previous appearances have included BBC Blue Peter and Children in Need, the National Civic Memorial Service for the first anniversary of the Manchester Arena attack, BBC Sport Relief alongside Snow Patrol and the television adaptation of Victoria Wood’s play That Day We Sang.
