We’re heading back into the Halle Archives for Throwback Thursday! Join us as we delve into history to see what gems are in store...

Back in 1930, the Hallé gave the premiere English performance of Mahler’s Ninth Symphony!

Part one of the programme consisted of just the symphony, with part two featuring music by Rimsky-Korsakov, Liadoff, Smetana and Lalo.

Hamilton Harty conducted the concert, with the orchestra having more than 100 members on stage, plus the Hallé Choir!

93 years on and we’re opening our 166th concert season with Mahler’s haunting Ninth Symphony.
