On this day back in 1949 we gave a concert of firsts at the Albert Hall in Manchester. Conducted by Sir John Barbirolli, the concert included Méhul’s Two Blind Men of Toledo, Richard Strauss’ Metamorphosen, Ponce’s Concierto del Sur, and Mozart’s Symphony No.29.

The concert included virtuoso classical guitarist, Andrés Segovia, who performed the Concierto del Sur to captive Manchester audiences.
