On this day back in 1899, Hans Richter conducted his first concert with the Hallé! 

A protégé of Richard Wagner, Richter conducted a programme that included two Overtures by Wagner, as well as music by Liszt, Brahms and Beethoven. After an interval the concert concluded with Beethoven’s epic Fifth Symphony.
