During this week back in 1924, Hamilton Harty wrote a letter to the Hallé after the orchestra performed his Irish Symphony the previous evening.

The letter reads:

Dear Mr Ball,

Will you kindly put this note in the Band-Room tonight. It is to convey my most sincere and grateful thanks to the members of the orchestra for their playing of my symphony last night, which made so much of a success of this performance.”
