On this day in 1989, the Hallé were in Leicester at the De Monfort Hall as part of their Proms series. 

Conducting the orchestra was Adrian Leaper, and the programme included Rimksy-Korsakov’s Scheherazade, Sibelius’ Karelia Suite and Grieg’s Two Elegiac Melodies for String Orchestra.  

The orchestra were joined by cello soloist, Alexander Baillie, who performed Tchaikovsky’s Variations on a Roccoco Theme.
