We’re heading back into the Hallé Archives for Throwback Thursday! Join us as we delve into history to see what gems are in store...

On 18th January 1916, Thomas Beecham, conductor and PR master of England’s orchestras in the first half of the 20th century, writes to Gustav Behrens of the Hallé Concerts Society with his fondest thoughts whilst in Italy. The end of the letter reads:

“It is hardly necessary for to refer in this letter to the great and genuine interest I tale in the musical life of Manchester and the high hopes I have formed of future possibilities these and the more I see of the people of the city the stronger my conviction becomes that any hopes will not be disappointed.”

Given his long-standing support and role as conductor and guest-conductor with us, we like to think we proved him right.
