Japan Day 2025
Join us for Japan Day at Hallé St Peter’s – a celebration of music and culture featuring talks, workshops and performances.

PROGRAMME (Note: All events are free to attend- but each require their own ticket)
1.45pm – 2.30pm: Hallé in Japan and the Far East (Archive Presentation)
Join us for the Hallé Archive presentation taking place in the Victoria Wood Hall at Hallé St Peter’s.
2.30pm – 3pm: European Premiere of Yu Kuwabara’s ‘Falling Leaves Moon Steps’
Under the baton of Euan Shields, join us for a very special performance from the Hallé Youth Orchestra, featuring special guest artists from Japan.
This performance celebrates the cultural exchange at the heart of Japan Week, bringing a fresh and expressive interpretation to this contemporary piece.
This exciting premiere will be introduced by the composer, Yu Kuwabara.
3.30pm – 4.15pm: Discovery Session
Hallé Musicians and special guest artists from Japan introduce Japanese instruments, and perform Toshi Ichiyanagi’s Hana no Henyō (Transfiguration of the Flower).

Please note that the start time for BLOOM has changed to 6.15pm.
The brand new work has been created in collaboration with composer and DJ AFRODEUTSCHE, dance company Company Chameleon, and queer-led fashion brand Belladonis working with a string ensemble from the world-renowned Hallé orchestra.
