The Hallé is delighted to announce that orchestra members David Petri and Caroline Abbott have won an award for their work with Pendine Park care homes. The duo were awarded the Sir Bryn Terfel Bronze Award at the Wales Care Award ceremony on Friday 21 October 2022 at Cardiff City Hall.

David and Caroline regularly lead interactive workshops, encouraging participants to join in singing, moving to music, playing percussion or even having a go at conducting. During pandemic lockdowns they realised many Pendine residents would miss live music so they voluntarily recorded more than 50 virtual workshops – nicknamed Musical Postcards – for screening online.

Pendine Park Artist in Residence, Sarah Edwards, said they had gone above and beyond, without being asked and that “It had a profound positive effect and helped combat extreme feelings of loneliness and isolation. They are true musical heroes.”

Hallé Education Director said, “David Petri and Caroline Abbott have both been central to the development of the Hallé’s community programme, working with families living with dementia, which has started at Pendine Care Homes back in 2008. Their tireless and dedicated effort, using music and the Hallé to change lives in this sector has been such an example to us all and this award is a fitting tribute to their magnificent contribution.”
