The Hallé is looking for a freelance choral accompanist(s) to support the work of the Hallé Youth Choir and Youth Training Choir. The successful candidate(s) will report to the Ensembles Manager and work closely with the Directors and Assistant Directors of both choirs and the Youth Ensembles Administrator.

Rehearsals are held in Manchester on Sunday afternoons in term time (September – April), with annual auditions and short intensive summer courses for each choir held in June / July.

 

The Role:

  • To accompany the Hallé Youth Training Choir (HYTC) and / or Hallé Youth Choir (HYC) at their regular Sunday afternoon rehearsals, and other rehearsals and performances as and when required, with a broad spectrum of repertoire
  • To accompany the annual summer HYC / HYTC residential courses and tours as required
  • To accompany individual membership auditions

 

Essential Skills and Qualities:

  • Graduate in piano performance and/or accompaniment
  • Experience in accompaniment of choirs
  • Exceptional sight-reading skills
  • Effective communicator
  • Approachable personality
  • Enhanced DBS Certificate for working with children and young people (the Hallé can help with this if successful at audition)

 

Desirable Skills and Qualities:

  • Experience of working with teenagers
  • Ability to read and reduce orchestral scores for piano accompaniment
  • Strong improvisation skills
