Dream of far-off lands with sensuous, nostalgic music by Szymanowski and Rachmaninov.
Conductor Nicholas Collon brings us a fantastic evening of early 20th-century works, from Rachmaninov’s brilliantly brooding symphony to Ravel’s enchanting miniature worlds.
Written whilst in Switzerland, the lovely melodies of Rachmaninov’s Third Symphony yearn for the Russian composer’s lost homeland.
In Szymanowski’s lyrical Second Violin Concerto, he pays homage to the folk music of the Tatra mountains of his native Poland, brought to life by one of the Hallé’s incredible Leaders, Emily Davis.
Fleeting and fantastical, Ravel’s songs have been arranged by composer Colin Matthews. Glimpse a wintry city ravaged by the winds of change, a shimmering dreamscape and a sparkling Christmas scene.
