Upon hearing the opening of Vaughan Williams' Fifth Symphony, Andrew Manze was 'instantly captivated by its magic' (Presto Music)

He conducts the Hallé’s performance of Vaughan Williams’ Fifth, alongside several of the composer’s much-loved pieces. Andrew Manze is well known as a leading interpreter of Vaughan Williams, a composer with whom he has a particularly close affinity, and has released a critically acclaimed cycle of the composer’s symphonies.

He will be joined by Roberto Ruisi, Leader of the Hallé and sought-after soloist in his own right, for The Lark Ascending. The piece was considered revolutionary in the years following its composition thanks to its rhythmic flow and musical imagery: the solo violin as the songbird and the orchestra as the rolling landscape beneath it.
