On the 23rd May 1974, American comedian, Danny Kaye, conducted the Hallé in a concert at the Free Trade Hall. 

The concert was in aid of the Royal Variety Club of Great Britain. The then Prince of Wales attended the special event. 

Danny Kaye signed a number of photographs of the day to the Hallé, with one saying “To the Hallé, It was splendid and I embrace you all, Danny Kaye”
