Book nowHallé award-winning conductor Euan Shields is joined by Dame Imogen Cooper to perform Mozart’s final piano concerto. Written in striking contrast to his other concertos, Mozart’s 27th Piano Concerto, full of richness and lyricism, is scored for a relatively small orchestra. Nevertheless, it is still packed with the charm and beauty so characteristic of the composer’s other works.
Beginning proceedings is Stravinsky’s Song of the Nightingale – an effective musical illustration of both real and mechanical birdsong. Tchaikovsky’s Second Symphony, dubbed “Little Russian” thanks to its effective use of Ukrainian folksongs, provides a joyful end to the evening.
