Following on from its highly acclaimed 2024 festival celebrating the works of Steve Reich, the Hallé is once again joined by conductor and percussionist Colin Currie and Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood for a concert of some of Reich’s most well-known works.

Reich’s iconic Clapping Music, its instrument just human hands, starts this unmissable event. Runner formed a double premiere at Covent Garden in 2016, when the Royal Ballet danced Wayne McGregor’s Multiverseto the score which the New York Times described as ‘a calmly luminous orchestral piece.’ Scored for winds, strings, piano and electric bass, the San Francisco Chronicle said of Pulse, ‘…this 15-minute work sounds unlike almost anything else in Reich’s catalogue.

Pulse is built around long, tenderly arching melodies and spacious harmonies…’ Beginning its life as a commission for the London Sinfonietta, Variations for Vibes, Piano and Strings plays with irregular accents to produce an upbeat, positive harmonic feeling throughout.
